You are proof that love before first sight does exist

Congratulations on your pregnancy!

Let's celebrate these last moments as a family of two, three, or whatever size your family is right now. I think it is special to have memories of what your family looked like right before the baby arrives. You deserve to have this incredible moment in your life captured, to celebrate with your partner and family the joy of a new baby entering your life.

When to book a session

The best time to take your photos is in your third trimester, between 28 and 34 weeks. At this point, your bump will be showing well and look great in photos, and you will still be able to move around and pose comfortably.

Pamper yourself

Your hands will appear in almost all of your images, so you want them looking good! Your maternity session is the perfect excuse to pamper yourself a little with a professional manicure. Believe me, nothing ruins a beautiful maternity portrait like chipped nails. If you are unable to get a mani/pedi, please just be sure to take off any old polish you may have left on before our session.

If you don’t usually wear make-up, that’s totally fine too. It still may be a good idea to lightly brush some translucent powder over your face before the session to avoid shine.

If you really want to look your best, a professional makeup artist is the way to go. A pro will know how to do your makeup so it shows best in photos. Hair and make up artist can be arranged for you if you need.

Location

Most women want to take advantage of one of the many outdoor locations Brussels has to offer, however some prefer the intimacy of their home. It is up to you.

Decide who to bring with you

Your maternity session is for you, your significant other and children, if this isn't your first pregnancy. Yes, fur babies are welcome too.

Wardrobe

Choose your outfit first, then dress your partner and other children in coordinating (but not competing) outfits. Neutral tones are best– tans, grays, blues, pinks (or other pastels) are great choices. Be mindful of busy clothing (no big logos, dinosaurs, trucks, balls, ballerinas, and statement shirts). These can be very distracting and will not be edited out after the session. If you have young girls, I suggest wearing little shorts under dresses. I recommend choosing clothes and accessories that show off the bump, as well. Stretchy fabrics that cling to your belly, dresses belted beneath the bust, maternity maxi dresses, and the like are all choices I would recommend. Of course, if you spot any other outfit that makes you feel gorgeous and you can move around in it comfortably, that works just as well.

Take the time to pick the right outfit for the maternity shoot. You should, of course. Be comfortable! But make sure that your clothing doesn’t detract from your tummy’s shape and your natural glow.

Be on Time

This is really important. What many clients don't realize is that natural light photography is 100% dependent on the sun, So the time that you arrive directly affects the way that your images will turn out. Even if you are only 10 minutes behind, it could still have negative effects because the golden, airy, beautiful characteristics of light only happen during a very short window of time. Also, your session is allotted a specific amount of time. If you show up late, you lose some of that time - leaving us with less opportunities for fun photos.

Other useful tips

  • Don’t forget to apply lotion to bare arms & legs

  • Bring a water bottle in case you get thirsty

  • If there is a special baby item you’d like to include, please feel free to bring that as well!

  • Relax, we’re going to have a great time :)
